RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WOODLAND / FOREST PLANTING

Working alongside remnant woodlands incorporating highly-programmed, manicured spaces or weaving a trail between the trees.

  • Woodland buffers are critical to the long-term health of the landscape.
  • Creating a woodland buffer helps to mimic the natural condition of the forest edge. Typically grasses, sedges and perennials give way to woody shrubs, before finally transitioning to small flowering trees and young canopy trees. This transition from short to tall plants helps to minimize the sunlight infiltration. The stronger the woodland edge, the more successful the woodland canopy can become.
  • 90% native plants is a goal for these plantings, while 10% non-native adaptable plants is acceptable in most areas.
