The drinking fountain installation detail below is to be used in situations where the drinking fountain will be a stand-alone installation away from any major structures such as shelters, pavilions, and restrooms.
- Drinking fountain should be set within an ADA accessible surface with clearances that meet ADA regulations.
- A below grade, aggregate filled sump to receive waste water should be located outside of the extents of the paved surface. This will prevent flooding of the paved surface in the event of sump failure and waste water backup, and will allow for excavation if needed.
- An aggregate sump is not necessary in situations where a drinking fountain is adjacent to a major structure with waste lines connected to the structure’s sanitary sewer system.
- Slope adjacent surfaces away from the paved drinking fountain surface.
