Storytelling

Stories Along Greenways

Greenways connect us physically to new places and can create meaningful experiences in those places, too. There are many opportunities to spark curiosity, conversation, learning and connection! Whether you think of this as storytelling, or interpretation, we think it serves to increase community understanding, appreciation of and civic pride in:

  • Greenways
  • History, nature, and culture of the communities the greenways connect
  • Our region overall

While we aren’t the history experts and we cannot tell every story along the greenways, we hope we can peak people’s interest so they can pursue their own education, curiosity, conversations and experiences to make meaning and connections in these amazing places throughout our region.

What's Important About This Place?

Part of our community engagement efforts include asking people what stories from their communities are important or need to be told. With community input and research, we identify some key themes for a given project. Then we share those ideas or help to spark interest in those stories through:

Signs Along The Greenways

Signs help provide some context and ask questions for visitors to consider. They might point out what you can see now, or provide a window to the past.

Stories Online or Print

Our People of the Greenways is one way we highlight how people use the greenways, online or in our map brochure!

Public Art

Public art highlights stories such as those shown here in Pillars of the Valley, to commemorate the residents of the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood.

Events & Tours

Programs like Greenway Walking Tours or Greenway Quest scavenger hunt encourage people to learn more about these special places.
