Boulder and natural ledge rock walls can be used for a naturalistic look, while also being used to retain slopes.
Stone can be dressed in many ways, from natural faces and shapes to hewn and dimensionally sawn blocks. Natural boulders/ ledge rock can be a very cost-effective alternative to concrete or modular walls where adequate space is available. Natural stone can also be used very effectively along waterways.
The versatility of natural boulder / ledge rock walls provides an advantage over modular or concrete stem walls. Depending on the size of the boulder, these walls can be constructed with a slight batter (top two images) or in a stepped-back arrangement (bottom two images)
