Dardenne Greenway Plan - Great Rivers Greenway

About

The plan for the Dardenne Greenway follows Dardenne Creek across St. Charles County. When complete, it will connect the communities of Dardenne Prairie, O’Fallon, Cottleville, and St. Peters as well as portions of unincorporated St. Charles County. It will also link to the Baltic Creek Greenway to connect to the Katy Trail and Busch Greenway.

Please note, if you saw dashed lines representing “Future Greenways” on the interactive map but don’t see those segments listed here, those projects are part of the overall plan but haven’t yet been studied individually. As soon as there is information to share and an opportunity for community engagement, those projects will have their own pages linked here!

How This Greenway Came To Life

Thank you to everyone who participated in this project! Whether you attended an open house, responded to a survey, asked questions, or submitted comments, thank you for helping shape your regional network of greenways! Combining your input with our technical expertise, our partners’ insights and stakeholder feedback, we made it happen together. Here’s a little background on how these greenways came to be:

Twin Island Trailhead at Technology Drive

With Missouri Department of Transportation rebuilding a bridge along Technology Drive Outer Road, the City of O’Fallon and Great Rivers Greenway partnered leverage the opportunity to build part of the greenway and a trailhead, laying the groundwork for future Dardenne Greenway extensions.
Of the names submitted by community members, the City of O’Fallon chose Twin Island as the name for the new trailhead to commemorate the Twin Island Campground that previously existed where The Chateaux at BaratHaven neighborhood now sits (just south-east of the trailhead). Locals remember camping, fishing, and enjoying the beautiful scenery at Twin Island Campground from the 1950s to the early 2000s.
