Meramec Greenway: Meramec Bridge Feasibility Study

Project Overview

This project explores the feasibility of a possible bridge over the Meramec River from Unger County Park to Greentree Park that would create a vital connection between two sections of Meramec Greenway on either side of the river, from Valley Park/Simpson County Park/Greentree Park to Unger County Park/Fenton City Park/George Winter County Park.

A flood study was conducted between 2023 and 2024 during the Unger Park Trail realignment project to determine if construction of a bridge over the Meramec River from Unger County Park to Greentree Park could meet a “No-Rise” requirement along this regulated floodway. A “No-Rise” certification confirms that a proposed project within a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) floodway will not increase the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) or the 100-year water surface elevation. The draft study has determined that a bridge could be constructed and meet the “No-Rise” requirement.

Project Location

This project is exploring the potential for a pedestrian bridge connection over the Meramec River between the existing Meramec Greenway in Unger Park in Fenton and Greentree Park in Kirkwood.
