National Public Lands Day celebrates an enduring American commitment to conservation.

Our parks, trails, forests, and waterways serve as common ground where we share experiences, build memories, and work side by side. Caring for Our Shared America emphasizes that what we share, we must also care for together.

National Public Lands Day is a collective act of care that strengthens our connection to the landscape and to each other. Through service and celebration, we acknowledge our place as custodians of these shared treasures, ensuring the American tradition of public lands endures for those who will inherit them.

As we observe America’s 250th anniversary, we recognize that caring for these spaces strengthens not only the landscape itself, but also the bonds between us as stewards of a shared American story, passed down through generations and carried forward into the future.

Join us for National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 26, 2026, to care for our shared America.

Gateway Arch National Park, Gateway Arch Park Foundation, Republic Services, Missouri Stream Team, Great Rivers Greenway, Living Lands & Waters, and the City of St. Louis have partnered to organize a community trash pick-up event on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 26th from 9 a.m. – noon. Recruit your friends and family members and join us in lending a helping hand and cleaning up the riverfront!

All volunteers will receive materials to help them stay safe such as litter pickers (limited supply), trash bags, and gloves.

After the clean-up, explore the park and enjoy a day full of service projects and fun events for the whole family to celebrate National Public Lands Day!

Note: There is no required uniform. Please dress for the appropriate weather and wear close-toe shoes.
