Brickline Greenway Art Party Aug. 5 Celebrates 25 Artists Along North Grand, Cass, Spring Avenues

This 2-mile section between Fairground Park and Grand Center Arts District will include public art in the form of sculpture, murals and a gallery on the ground from St. Louis-based and international artists

In conjunction with more than a dozen partners, Great Rivers Greenway (GRG), the public agency leading the Brickline Greenway project to connect 14 neighborhoods and four major parks with greenway paths, is celebrating the 25 artists bringing vibrancy to this section with an Art Party on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Visitors can see planned artwork and hear from artists and partners for the Brickline Greenway’s northern segment, which is in construction now.

“Brickline Greenway is delivering on its promise to create lasting, sustainable infrastructure while bringing public art that adds beauty, meaning, and a sense of place,” said GRG CEO Mark Perkins. “We are grateful for the willing partners, generous donors, and talented artists making this work possible.”

Community members of all ages are invited to come to the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis at 3750 Washington Blvd anytime from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 5. The free event includes remarks from artists and partners from 6 to 6:30 p.m. plus renderings and information for the project area. Attendees can enjoy free food from Mother’s Fish, a take-home screen printing activity from Christopher Loss, People’s Art and Recreation Center, music from HEAL Center for the Arts, and a special spoken word performance:

At least ten murals, three sculptures, and a gallery on the ground made of 40+ durable decals on the pavement will come from 22 St. Louis-based artists: 18andCounting, Alicia LaChance, Amy Miller, Andrèa Hughes, AVV A, Ayanna Thompson-Washington, Brian DePauli, Brian Lathan, Brock Seals, Cbabi Bayoc, De’Joneiro Jones, Elena Nunez, Fatou Kabir, Jamie Bonfiglio, Joseph Mueller, Lizzy Martinez, Marquis Terrell, Mercedes Armstrong, natashNa A., People’s Art and Recreation Center, Robert Green, Sequoi Edwards, and simiya sudduth.

The Gateway Foundation, which is celebrating 40 years of sculpting the St. Louis region through art and design, will loan, install and steward a large-scale sculpture for all to enjoy at Grand Boulevard and St. Louis Avenue. Abstract Bronze IV from British-Nigerian interdisciplinary artist Yinka Shonibare, CBE RA, will bring vibrant colors and patterns, picked by the community, to the iconic corner in North City.

At Spring Avenue and Finney Avenue, Edward Jones has commissioned functional sculptures from multidisciplinary artist Christine Corday. Plans for A Place to Dream, featuring seven different-colored granite chairs, will be unveiled. With additional seating made of Phenix Marble − a durable limestone that looks and is used like marble, quarried in Missouri − this quiet place of reflection and connection will be surrounded by native plantings.

This art installation is a gift from Edward Jones to the St. Louis region – its home for more than 100 years – representing a simple, enduring belief: Progress and financial fulfillment begin by sitting with someone and understanding what matters most. As Brickline Greenway Campaign Co-Chair, Edward Jones Managing Partner Penny Pennington’s vision for a more connected city comes to life here, the plaza invites conversations about possibility.

“These chairs offer a simple, human invitation: To pause, to sit, to truly listen. They’re places where stories and perspectives are shared, and people see one another clearly,” artist Christine Corday said. “Each piece is created with deep intention, bringing beauty into everyday spaces and furthering the energy and vitality of shared community.”

Construction is well underway on the 1.3-mile north connector of Brickline Greenway, which runs from Fairground Park at Natural Bridge Avenue south to Cass Avenue, west to Spring Avenue, and south to Page Avenue. This section will open next year, and addresses a dire need for safety improvements along one of the region’s (and country’s) most dangerous streets, with 733 crashes, 308 injuries, 17 disabling injuries and seven fatalities in just four years. In addition to the Brickline Greenway along the west side of Grand Boulevard, sidewalk enhancements will be made to the east side of the street, thanks to contributions from the City of St. Louis’ American Rescue Plan Act funds and two additional federal transportation grants. Construction will begin in early fall on the 0.8-mile segment along Spring Avenue from Page Boulevard to Lindell Boulevard, running through 2027 to open in early 2028.
