Western Greenway: Hamilton Creek Stream Bank Restoration Project

Project Overview

Hamilton Creek in the City of Wildwood runs parallel to a section of the Western Greenway between Grand Avenue and Old State Road. A section of the stream bank is experiencing erosion that threatens to impact not only the paved greenway, but also water quality and habitat in this area. Great Rivers Greenway and the City of Wildwood are partnering to identify the cause of the erosion and develop solutions to prevent it in the future.

Project Location

The project area is focused on approximately 300 linear feet of Hamilton Creek stream bank next to the greenway between Grand Avenue and Old State Road and Highway 109 in Wildwood.

Project Partners

City of Wildwood, Missouri
Great Rivers Greenway

Current Status

The goal of this project is to proactively prevent future damage to the existing greenway and improve habitat by using nature-based and engineered solutions on the stream bank. This could include reinforcement of the “toe” of the creek bank with rocks and willow staking. Crews have conducted geotechnical drilling to help identify the next steps. Final design is expected to be complete in late summer 2025.
