Project Overview
In 2019, Great Rivers Greenway collaborated with the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership to engage stakeholders of the 39 North Agtech Innovation District (39 North) to create the 39N Greenway Plan. The plan refined the Centennial Greenway route through 39 North and identified new complementary greenway connections within the district. The project goals for the Centennial Greenway and the 39 North Greenway are:
- Extend the Centennial Greenway from Warson Park in the City of Olivette to the intersection of US 67 and Schuetz Rd in the City of Creve Coeur and unincorporated St. Louis County.
- Improve safety and comfort for people walking, running, bicycling, pushing a stroller, and using a wheelchair between Warson Park and the US 67/ Schuetz Rd intersection and to the multiple activity centers within 39 North.
- Create safe greenway crossings at Olive Blvd, Warson Road and US 67.
Project Location
This project will extend the Centennial Greenway from Warson Park in Olivette, through 39 North, to the intersection of US 67 and Schuetz Rd in the City of Creve Coeur.

Current Status

Our partners at the City of Creve Coeur were awarded Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) federal funds through East-West Gateway to construct a portion of the Centennial Greenway extension from Warson Park to Baur Blvd.
The project connects to the existing Centennial Greenway in Warson Park at the intersection of Warson Road and Gateway Blvd, continues west on Gateway Blvd, then runs north along Research Blvd to Baur Blvd. Moving forward, the project team and community partners will be working to finalize a design for the greenway, determine where easements will be needed, coordinate with utilities, and much more.
The project team will work to finish the design of the Centennial Greenway from Warson Park to Baur Blvd by 2027, then start construction as early as 2028 for an estimated 2029 completion.
Other sections of the Centennial Greenway (Baur Blvd to US 67) and the 39 North Connector (Stacy Park to Gateway Blvd) will be designed and completed over the coming years.
Notice of Opportunity for Public Comment on Centennial Greenway in 39 North Segment 6 – Gateway & Research Boulevards from Warson Road to Baur Boulevard
Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that the City of Creve Coeur, Missouri, is planning to construct an extension of the Centennial Greenway from its current terminus at the intersection of Warson Road and Gateway Boulevard to the intersection of Research Boulevard and Baur Boulevard. The eastern terminus (at Warson Road) is part of Warson Park, a recreational facility owned and operated by the City of Olivette. This project is receiving federal funding from the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) to support its construction. Section 4(f) of the USDOT Act of 1966 requires public input for any impact to publicly owned recreational properties receiving funding from USDOT. Warson Park is a 4(f) resource and will require approximately a tenth of an acre of temporary and permanent easements in Warson Park at the intersection of Warson Road and Gateway Boulevard to accommodate the trail, utility relocations, and improved traffic signal systems. Improvements to the greenway will include an 8-to 10-foot wide concrete shared-use path connecting from the existing Centennial Greenway at Warson Park to the existing 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalks along Baur Boulevard. Traffic improvements include the new fully signalized intersection, signage, and a high-visibility crosswalk at Warson Road and Gateway Boulevard. Gateway and Research Boulevards will be improved with striping, since they are currently unstriped, and a road diet to economize the overwidened lanes while accommodating appropriate turning movements for articulated trucks. The Gateway Boulevard/Research Boulevard intersection will receive signage and a high-visibility crosswalk. Segment 6 will improve bicycle and pedestrian access to Metro Bus Route 49 along Baur Boulevard. The project will not alter or reduce any recreational functions of the park, and the park will remain open throughout construction. Centennial Greenway currently terminates at Warson Road; thus, the project will not require any temporary closure or require a detour during construction. Proposed project plans may be requested by contacting Angelica Gutierrez at Great Rivers Greenway at agutierrez@grgstl.org. Individuals and organizations wishing to comment may submit their comments to Angelica Gutierrez until May 18, 2026. Thank you for your help and understanding with this important infrastructure improvement project for the city of Creve Coeur.
