Project Overview

The City of O’Fallon and Great Rivers Greenway are partnering to build a new trailhead for the Dardenne Greenway at Technology Drive with a parking lot and connections to nearby trails. There will also be benches, wayfinding signage, and native plants and landscaping. The new trailhead will connect greenway users to the Dardenne Greenway, as well as existing City of O’Fallon trails and a trail within the neighboring Barathaven property. The Missouri Department of Transportation will be completely rebuilding the Technology Drive Outer Road bridge structure and adding a twelve-foot wide, separated path for walking and biking. Eventually, this trailhead will serve a future walking and biking crossing at I-64 linking the Dardenne and Busch Greenways.

Current Status

I-64 North Outer Road bridge at Dardenne Creek

The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the Interstate 64 North Outer Road/Technology Drive bridge at Dardenne Creek starting Monday, August 11, 2025. The outer road and bridge are expected to remain closed through 2025. All work is weather permitting.

This project is a joint effort between the City of O’Fallon, Great Rivers Greenway, and MoDOT. The reconstruction effort will include a 12-foot-wide shared use path facility across the bridge structure. The planned 10-foot path sections would then be connected to the parking lot area and existing paths. This connection is a vital part of the overall regional connectivity for Great Rivers Greenway through St. Charles County with ultimate connectivity planned to the Katy Trail.
