Brickline Greenway: Midtown I-64 Crossing

Project Overview

Great Rivers Greenway, along with community members and donors, are building a segment of the Brickline Greenway in the Midtown area of St. Louis City from Laclede Avenue south on Spring Street and across Forest Park Avenue past the City Foundry. A new greenway bridge will thread between the decks of I-64/40 to the Grand MetroLink Station and Armory District on the south side.

This portion of the greenway will link into a separate Brickline Greenway project connecting the Grand MetroLink Station to the Cortex MetroLink Station, creating more access and options for residents and visitors alike and enabling people to connect on foot, by bicycle, stroller, and/or wheelchair to the businesses, employers, schools and other destinations along the way.

The alignment was identified in the Brickline Greenway: I-64 Crossing Location Study. The location study was completed in 2022 and evaluated 11 options for the I-64/40 crossing in this area. MoDOT, the City of St. Louis and other partners provided input throughout the feasibility study’s technical analysis.

The project was recently awarded over $9.9 Million in construction funds from U.S. Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Program.

Current Status

This section of greenway is currently in the design phase and is expected to begin construction in 2027.
