How We Work
Partner Power
Our team collaborates with municipalities and nonprofits to get conservation work done on the ground and to keep regional efforts innovating and moving forward. Remember that almost all the greenways and surrounding areas are owned by the cities, counties, campuses and other partners; we are very grateful for allowing us to invest in improvements to connect everything together and implement conservation projects along the way. We also provide free workshops and trainings for our partners so everyone knows how to partners that help take care of the greenways.

With Forest ReLeaf of Missouri
Forest ReLeaf of Missouri’s mission is to enrich communities by growing and planting trees through the power of people and partnerships. Together, we identify areas along the greenway that would benefit from native tree plantings to provide shade, support native wildlife habitats, increase tree canopy, improve air quality, and create healthier, more vibrant outdoor spaces. With Forest ReLeaf’s help, and dedicated volunteers, we are able to expand our tree planting efforts by planting trees where they are needed most, helping to strength our communities and our planet.
Green Jobs Training
With Missouri Botanical Garden
The Outdoor Leadership Corps (OLC) is a paid education and green workforce development program run by the Missouri Botanical Garden in partnership with Great Rivers Greenway. Designed for emerging professionals, OLC provides hands-on experience in conservation, horticulture, ecological restoration, and other related fields in the green industry while building valuable career skills. Through this partnership, participants gain practical experience while helping us maintain, restore, and beautify the landscapes along the greenways. Projects vary, but include conservation efforts like removing invasive plant species, planting native trees, installing pollinator gardens, assisting with volunteer events, and more.
Habitat Restoration
With Americorps St. Louis
AmeriCorps is a nonprofit that has adapted over the years to meet community needs and focuses on the training and development of the next generation of public service leaders, while building the capacity of partner agencies to achieve impactful community results. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) has three areas of focus including disaster response, environmental stewardship, and wildland fire. Through our partnership with AmeriCorps St. Louis, members gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of environmental stewardship projects along the greenways.
