Beginner Chainsaw Training 2024

Ready to get hands-on with chainsaw skills in a safe, supportive environment? Join Great Rivers Greenway and St. Louis City Forestry for a comprehensive Beginner Chainsaw Training. This session is designed for individuals with little to no chainsaw experience who want to learn the basics of safe chainsaw operations and essential maintenance.

Our next training is Wednesday November 20 from 7:30am-2:30pm at the Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing Site on the Mississippi Greenway (Riverfront Trail) Use the address 28 E. Grand Ave. St. Louis MO 63147

(Rain date will be Wed. December 4, 2024)

(DIRECTIONS: Take I-70 to Adelaide exit, head east towards river, go right (south on Hall Street) go left on Prairie (east) towards river and follow road through flood wall to greenway. You can drive south on greenway to Mary Meachum site.)

Our expert instructors will show you:

  1. Basic chainsaw safety- learn the fundamental safety protocols, gear, and best practices to keep you and others safe while working with chainsaws.
  2. Chainsaw operation- introduction to how a chainsaw works, including the proper handling and techniques for cutting.
  3. Routine maintenance- tips to keep your chainsaw in top working condition, including proper sharpening, oiling, and checking for wear.

Who should attend?
Individuals with little to no chainsaw experience- this includes staff at local municipalities, parks departments, students in green industry.

What to bring:
Wear long sleeves, pants, and sturdy boots. Dress accordingly for the weather. This event will be held outside. Bring your own chainsaw if you have one. We will have chainsaws, safety glasses, hearing protection and chaps.

Lunch will be provided. (There is a space to note dietary preferences on form.)
