Commemorating Mill Creek Valley

In 1959, the once-thriving Mill Creek Valley neighborhood in the City of St. Louis was destroyed and its 20,000 Black residents were displaced in the name of “urban renewal.” With input from area residents and stakeholders, plus support and expertise from institutions like The Griot Museum of Black History and Missouri Historical Society, the Brickline Greenway will commemorate the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood in its former footprint along a one-mile stretch of Market Street between Compton Avenue and 22nd Street.
