“Convergence” Mural at Chain of Rocks Park

On your next visit to Chain of Rocks Park, be sure to see “Convergence,” a permanent public art installation created by Simiya Sudduth. The panels, installed on both sides of the Missouri entrance to the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, depict birds that frequent this part of the Mississippi, including a Great Blue Heron, Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, Yellow Warbler, Downy Woodpecker, Blue Jay, and Wood Duck.

Sudduth explained the goal of their work with “Convergence” is to “…educate, celebrate, and help connect us to the ecological history of this place and cultivate connections with the non-human living beings that live in these spaces with us.”

The panels highlight the limestone geology in and around the site and include collaged drawings of the Mississippi River. On your next visit, be sure to visit “Convergence,” and tag us @greatriversstl in the photos you take!
