Brickline Greenway: Market Street from 22nd to Compton Ave.
Project Overview
Great Rivers Greenway, City of St. Louis and Harris-Stowe State University, along with community members and donors, are building a segment of the Brickline Greenway so that people can connect on foot, by bicycle, stroller, and/or wheelchair to the small businesses, major employers, schools and other destinations along the way.
Project Updates
Construction Along Market St. Is Right On Schedule
The pathways are taking shape, the trees and plants are doing well, and the artwork is coming together to honor Mill Creek Valley.
- The greenway will narrow the street to make room for pedestrians and reduce speeding by cars.
- Damon Davis’ Pillars of the Valley monument and art installation will continue from Energizer Park westward, with a pillar at Jefferson and Market near where the People’s Finance Building once stood, and another array of pillars near Compton at Harris-Stowe State University’s campus.
- Most of the greenway between 20th and Compton will be separated into two paths: a direct route with a brick line down the middle and a separate, meandering path for people to stop and enjoy the artwork and landscaping.
- After the greenway is finished, the rest of Market Street will also be repaved as part of this project.
New Mural Along Brickline Greenway Honors Stars Park
Great Rivers Greenway, Harris-Stowe State University and St. Louis ArtWorks (local artists with teen apprentices) teamed up during summer 2025 to create a mural along the Brickline Greenway at Stars Park to honor the St. Louis Stars, world champion baseball team, and the Mill Creek Valley community who supported them.

Project Location
This 0.85 mile segment will go along Market Street between St. Louis CITY SC’s Energizer Park stadium at 22nd St. and Harris-Stowe State University at Compton Avenue.

Project Status

Current Status
This section of greenway is in construction! This project includes local sales tax funding and significant private investment. Construction began in February 2025 to extend the greenway along the north side of Market St. between Jefferson Ave. and 22nd St. and is scheduled to be completed Spring 2026. As parts of the project are completed, they will be opened so everyone has access to sidewalks and bus stops.
- Westbound traffic will be impacted from roughly 22nd St. to Compton Ave. for the duration of the project.
- Market St. will remain open to through traffic. There may be impacts to cross streets as the project develops.
- If any disruptions are known or significant impacts are anticipated in the area, nearby businesses and property owners will be notified.
- Properties and local amenities along Market St. will remain accessible throughout the duration of construction.
- Please use caution and care throughout all work zones.
This section will also include extensions of the work of Damon Davis for Pillars of the Valley, a permanent art installation to commemorate the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood. Learn more about this story here.
