Partner Highlight

March 2021: University of Missouri- St. Louis

Great Rivers Greenway is very fortunate to have many collaborative partners. In an effort to highlight operations and maintenance work happening across the region, we are adding a partner highlight to each newsletter. This month’s partner is the University of Missouri- St. Louis (UMSL). They are accountable and proactive in the operations and maintenance of the stretch of the St. Vincent Greenway that runs through their campus. Most recently, UMSL has worked with Forest ReLeaf to improve the forest canopy on campus. Since 2017, they have planted more than 600 new trees! They have also applied for, and been approved for TRIM grants (Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance) for the past three years.

This year they removed 16 trees and transformed one of them into a “wildlife tree.” UMSL is also very focused on managing vegetation along the greenway. They recently spent more than a month removing invasive plant overgrowth from the greenway and clearing out fence lines and retaining walls. Way to go UMSL! Thanks for the continued work to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all greenway users.
