Investing in Open Spaces

Celebrating Earth week by thanking the many partners who have graciously donated land or granted easements to build greenways for you to explore and enjoy!

This Earth Day week, Great Rivers Greenway would like to thank the numerous partners over the years that have graciously donated land or easements to make it possible for us to connect the region together in a network of greenways. It takes a lot of collaboration to build the greenways that make it easy for you to be active, get around town and enjoy being outside!

Since the taxpayers first invested in this important mission in the year 2000, dozens of partners have donated more than 50 acres of land to the cause. From developers and for-profit businesses to school or levee districts to municipalities or nonprofit organizations, we are always thrilled when we can leverage the taxpayers’ investment with a gift from the community. Some recent examples include Republic Services donating an easement as part of the land that will eventually connect the River des Peres Greenway to the Gravois Greenway (also known as Grant’s Trail), or the City of Bridgeton donating an easement to let us create the Missouri Greenway at the Earth City Levee (which we will officially open and celebrate on June 27th).

We are honored to be working hard every single day to make the St. Louis region an even better place to live, and are thankful to partners large and small. We hope to see you at the St. Louis Earth Day Festival this Sunday, April 26th in Forest Park!
