Mississippi Greenway

Jefferson Barracks Park to River City Casino

This section of the Mississippi River Greenway offers magnificent views of the river as it stretches from Jefferson Barracks County Park north along the river. You can have a picnic or connect to historic Jefferson Barracks – a U.S. Army Post that dates back to 1826.
The extension of this trail from its current endpoint on the northern side of the Casino parking lot to the existing trail in the River des Peres Greenway is complete between Alabama and Broadway. However, The final half mile—between South Broadway and the northwest corner of the River City Casino—to connect the River des Peres and Mississippi Greenways has been on hold for a couple of years to allow for Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) sewer line repairs and improvements (delayed by flooding!), and to obtain clearance to construct the greenway beneath the railroad bridge.

In spring 2022, Union Pacific Railroad  approved the greenway under the railroad tracks! The first step is to sign agreements between all project partners – Great Rivers Greenway, St. Louis County, Metropolitan Sewer District and Union Pacific Railroad. Formal approval through boards and councils can often take several months, but all partners are eager to make this connection a reality. Once agreements are finalized, the construction window is about 6 months to build this final stretch. Stay tuned for updates!

When complete, you will be able to walk, run or ride all the way from Jefferson Barracks Park to the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne Metrolink station. You’ll also be able get to Carondelet Park and the Christy Greenway without ever leaving the ADA accessible path!
