Staff Position: Outreach Specialist

Apply in a variety of ways (see below for details) by June 30, 2021.

Great Rivers Greenway is the public agency making the St. Louis region a more vibrant place to live, work and play by developing a regional network of greenways.

We continually seek outreach opportunities where Great Rivers Greenway can send a staff representative to set up a table, booth or tent at another organization’s event (or sometimes even at our own). This might be a community fair, a program, a race, a festival or another event. We typically participate in something like this 100-150 times per typical year. The goal is to engage with people, answer their questions, hear their feedback, distribute maps and other materials, capture email newsletter signups, etc. This is a crucial function for us, both because many people do not know about the greenways, their benefits and our future plans in the region, and also because it’s an important chance for people to ask questions and give us feedback to inform our work. The position of Outreach Specialist has been created to increase our ability to be in touch with the two million residents of St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County.

The Outreach Specialist will report to the Outreach Coordinator.  The Coordinator is responsible for finding, registering for and arranging all logistics and payments for all outreach activities the agency undertakes. The Outreach Specialist position will be called upon to assist in staffing any number of these events on an as needed basis, if/when they are able. The Outreach Coordinator will simply contact the Outreach Specialists when opportunities present themselves and they can accept or deny the chance to work. Exposure to a wide variety of regional agencies and organizations will require the ability to proactively engage with the public to promote and share information about Great Rivers Greenway.

This position will be paid $15/hour and reimbursed for mileage from the Great Rivers Greenway office to events and back. Each Outreach Specialist is each expected to work 5-12 events per year, as their schedule allows. Each event will require 4-10 hours of time, including travel to and from the event, setup and breakdown of equipment and materials, and post-event reporting of outreach results. Outreach Specialists will come to the Great Rivers Greenway office (in Midtown near IKEA), gather the supplies and equipment, attend the event, drop the materials back off, and submit a report.

Great Rivers Greenway seeks to hire up to four individuals in this capacity.

The Outreach Specialist is a permanent, part-time, on-call, hourly position, responsible for engaging people in the organization’s mission, vision and projects. Responsibilities include customer service and outreach interactions at events and programs throughout the region. This position demands a dedicated, flexible professional with excellent customer service skills including active listening and attention to detail. This position does not hold regular hours or attend any regular meetings.
