The Volunteer Coordinator position is a full-time, salaried position with benefits, responsible for the coordination of Great Rivers Greenway’s volunteer program, engaging community volunteers, civic and corporate groups, and partners to help build, promote and sustain the greenways. General duties surrounding implementing the position include:
o Consistently demonstrates a climate of courtesy, respect, and professionalism to staff, volunteers, and the public.
o Assists in the development and delivery of public engagement strategies that support the volunteer services effort.
o Responsible for recording impacts and contribution of volunteer efforts to Great Rivers Greenway.
o Works with communications staff to develop content to promote the volunteer program, recruit attendees, etc.
o In conjunction with other staff, maintains a computer database for recordkeeping and volunteer information including various skills.
o Responsible for delivery of the volunteer engagement process including recruitment, orientation, coaching and development, performance management and retention. This includes a variety of volunteer types across multiple departments.
o Actively recruits volunteers and promotes volunteer program by attending and presenting at public meetings and events.
o Conducts interviews and coordinates background check process.
o Coordinate orientation with Great Rivers Greenway staff to assure that volunteers are properly trained and supervised so that safety and quality standards are met.
o Manages volunteer retention through positive relationships and communication. Maintains contact with current and non-active volunteers.
o Coordinate with and check in with all other staff to ensure processes are flowing smoothly, needs are being met and adjustments are made as needed.
o Cultivates leadership within volunteer groups to maintain growth and development.
o Develops challenging and creative ways to engage and recognize volunteers on an on-going basis through activities, events, and other methods.
o Solicits and collects volunteer input and feedback that will assist in monitoring volunteer programs.
o Evaluates process for performance, placement, and supervision for new and existing volunteers.
o Recommends and develops ongoing ideas for utilization of volunteers.
o Responsible for the direct implementation of volunteer group field days, partner cleanup events and stewardship-based volunteer opportunities.
o Coordinate with partners to establish goals, secure site access, arrange all logistics and partner roles and debrief after events to capture successes and challenges.
o Lead field days including gathering/purchasing supplies, conducting setup, introductions/welcome and training of volunteers, supervision throughout workday, clean up of site and documentation of the effort.
o Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers before, during and after the work days to ensure successful coordination.
Bachelor’s degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
